Overview

Avilo ("we", "our", "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use the Avilo app and website, how we use it, who we share it with, and what rights you have.

Short version: We collect what we need to run the service. We don't sell your data. We don't use it for advertising. You can delete everything at any time.

Data we collect

Information you provide:

Phone number (used for authentication)
Display name and profile photo
Bio, traits, and any other profile information you choose to add
Messages sent through the app
Selfie photos taken during meetup confirmation
Captions and endorsements you write

Information collected automatically:

Location data (only when the app is open and you are visible on the map)
Device type, OS version, and app version
Usage data (screens visited, features used) — anonymised
Crash reports and error logs

How we use your data

To show your profile and approximate location to other users (only when visible)
To enable messaging between matched users
To verify meetup confirmations and calculate endorsement scores
To enforce our community guidelines and respond to reports
To improve the app through anonymised analytics
To send you notifications you've opted into

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling for third-party marketing, or any purpose not listed above.

Location data

Location is core to Avilo's function. When you are "visible" on the map, your approximate location is shown to other users. We never show your exact GPS coordinates — we fuzz your position to a ~200m radius before displaying it.

When you turn visibility off, location collection stops immediately. We do not track or store your location history. Meetup confirmation records the approximate location at the time of confirmation only, and only if you grant permission.

Sharing your data

We share your information only in these limited cases:

With other users: Your profile, approximate location (when visible), and public meetup selfies are visible within the app.
Service providers: We use Supabase (database and storage) and AWS (media processing). These providers process data on our behalf under strict data processing agreements.
Legal requirements: If required by law, court order, or to protect the safety of users.

We never sell your data. Ever.

Data retention

We keep your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all personal data is permanently deleted within 30 days. This includes your profile, messages, selfies, and location records.

Anonymised, aggregated statistics (e.g. total meetups in a city) may be retained indefinitely as they cannot identify you.

Your rights

You have the right to:

Access — request a copy of all data we hold about you
Correction — update or correct inaccurate data
Deletion — delete your account and all associated data
Portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format
Object — object to specific uses of your data

Cookies and tracking

Our website (joinavilo.com) uses minimal cookies for session management and anonymised analytics. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking pixels. The Avilo app does not use cookies.

Children

Avilo is not intended for users under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe we have collected data from a minor, please contact us immediately at privacy@joinavilo.com.
